2007 European Culture Award (KulturPreis Europa)
will be granted to the Music Biennale Zagreb (MBZ)

MBZ
opened Croatia's doors to Europe and the world
through the many editions of international festival of contemporary music
that they have organised for nearly 50 years in line with a philosophy
that calls for 'intercultural dialogue and tolerance'.

MBZ
has helped many young people and prominent composers and musicians

from both East and West to come together, and,
in addition to hosting highly acclaimed artists,
has created an opportunity for young artists to come together
and meet with audiences in festivals, co-productions, cultural exchange programmes,
workshops, conferences and symposia.

MBZ
will be awarded for its part in building cultural bridges

between Eastern and Western Europe and world-wide,

for its role as an ambassador of culture
and in breaking down national frontiers on a cultural level,
removing the historical cultural barriers
by promoting understanding, tolerance and accepting,

and for its European and international role since its first festival
as a mediator between east and west, east and east and world-wide,
for bringing people together with its clear message of peace and friendship
during the War period of 1991 and 1995, which is also evident in this year's programme.

Zagreb is an old Central European city. It is located on the intersection of several important routes between the Adriatic coast and Central Europe. Zagreb offers its guests the Baroque feel of the Upper town, picturesque open-air markets, various kinds of shops and delicious local cuisine.

Welcome to Zagreb, capital of the Republic of Croatia
